China strongly protested Takaichi's meeting with Taiwan's APEC representative, reiterating its opposition to any official exchanges between Japan and Taiwan. Despite these tensions, both sides agreed on the need to manage differences and focus on mutually beneficial relations.
The summit highlighted ongoing friction but also a pragmatic willingness to keep diplomatic channels open.
