A diamond brooch once owned by Napoleon Bonaparte and lost during his escape from the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 has sold for $4.4 million at a Sotheby’s auction in Geneva.
The historic jewel, featuring a 13-carat diamond and nearly 100 smaller stones, was seized by the Prussian army and remained in royal hands for over two centuries. The brooch far exceeded its pre-sale estimates, drawing intense interest from collectors and history enthusiasts. The identity of the buyer remains undisclosed, but the sale highlights the enduring fascination with Napoleonic artifacts and royal jewels.
This auction was part of Sotheby’s Royal & Noble Jewels sale, which saw strong results for other historic pieces as well.
